正山小种产自福建武夷山，是世界上最早的红茶，人称红茶鼻祖，制茶历史已经有四百余年，桐木关，是武夷山国家级自然保护区、武夷山八大雄关之一，就像一块保留地，内涵隽永又无声无息，作为世界红茶发源地，享誉国际。

绿茶变成红茶，也是一种机缘巧合的故事

话说是武夷山桐木关遇战乱，村民扔下做了一半的绿茶，就去躲避战乱了。在制茶作坊里，疲惫的士兵们躺在制作了一半的茶青上睡着了。等士兵走了，这些绿茶都变成“红了”。

村民闻到淡淡花香，索性就把这“变红了”的茶叶拿去烤火，正山小种就阴差阳错地成了红茶的鼻祖。可见，它能成为享誉世界的红茶鼻祖，凭的就是那一道松木烟熏味。

从王后爱上红茶，到一个国家爱上红茶。

16世纪，英国的新王后、查理二世之妻凯瑟琳从葡萄牙出嫁，带了一些正山小种做嫁妆，作为茶的狂热爱好者，她常自己泡茶喝，顺便招待宾客，饮茶的风气便从此盛行于皇室，流传至民间。

当时英国的茶叶大多从中国武夷山进口，最受追捧的就是正山小种──世界范围内的红茶鼻祖，其高贵与稀有，使得整个欧洲渐闻美名，并为之倾倒。

18世纪，英国植物学家罗伯特 · 福琼秘密来到中国，乔装成本地商人，遮人耳目，沿路收集茶叶种子、制茶工具，并最终找到了武夷山深处的桐木关，当时最好的红茶——正山小种的产地。

最终，福琼悄悄带走了小叶种茶树种子和幼苗，并忽悠了8位制茶工人跟他远赴印度。从此，印度、斯里兰卡等地开始出产红茶，欧洲摆脱了对中国红茶的依赖。

随着海外贸易的没落，作为红茶的鼻祖——正山小种开始归于沉寂，直到近些年才被人重新认识。

这种茶叶在逐渐被人们接受的过程中，被人们叫做“正山小种”。正山，意为内山，也只有现在的武夷山自然保护区内生产的茶叶才可以保持原本的正山小种的内涵与味道，才是真正的正山小种。

真正的桐木红茶，外形条索肥实，色泽乌润，泡水后汤色红浓。茶叶是用松针或松柴熏制而成，有着非常浓烈的松烟香味。其成品茶，外形紧结匀整，色泽铁青带褐，较油润，有天然花香，但香味却不强烈，细而含蓄，味醇厚甘爽，喉韵明显，汤色橙黄清明。正山小种经过3年以上时间的沉淀，松烟味和茶叶本身的物质相融合，滋味渐趋醇和，会产生桂圆香味。

说起正山小种，这里再提一下金骏眉，二者的区别主要是采摘标准不同，正山小种是用叶制成。金骏眉主要是采摘的芽头。
